The last 5 years I’ve been in Vegas for Memorial Day. Like many Southern California residents, Vegas has been the easy go to for the holiday. Working in the night club industry we usually worked the entire holiday weekend, but drove up after work around 3AM, avoided all traffic, took a power nap, then went straight to a pool party.
This is the first year since moving back here that I’m not going. It was feasible to catch the tail end of the holiday in the past, then do stuff for a day or two to avoid the traffic. Now that I have a “normal” job again, the thought of dealing with the actual weekend people there doesn’t sound fun at all. I love Vegas, I’ve been there countless times in the last 9 years – my first being right when I turned 21. An incredible destination, featured in all kinds of movies and books – a once in a lifetime trip for people all over the world, and for me it’s in my back yard.
The more trips I’ve done there, the more I started venture outside of the strip. One of my best friends moved there a few years ago, and having a local there has helped even more. I love seeing new nightclubs, they’re like nowhere else in the world.
My favorite things though, have been the random adventures there, from the food to historical stops to the breathtaking outdoors…
This picture is from our first trip to Vegas during Memorial Day Weekend 2010. It makes me laugh because we’re in front of a poster, but when someone posted this people kept asking what pool we were at. The 3 of us went to Vegas the most together.
This was us at Marquee the Memorial Weekend that it opened. 2011. We didn’t know this would happen at the time, but 3 years after this trip the 4 of us went to China together.
This is our 4th, same trip – probably around 7AM, we hadn’t slept, and I had just won 500 pennies in the slots.
One of my favorite trips, we bought a giant guitar filled with an overly sweet alcoholic drink and spent hours in the Wax Museum taking pictures.
Stopping by the Alien Fresh Jerky store to try their famous jerky on one of our drives home.
Our feast at the famous Del Taco in Barstow on another drive home from Vegas.
Hiking Red Rock. So beautiful, and so much fun, and kind of scary.
More night club outings.
Sledding in Mt. Charleston!
Love this view from one of the hotels we’ve stayed in.
Last Memorial Day weekend 2014 at the opening of Drai’s Pool Party.
Latest visit. March 2015, hanging out by the Planet Hollywood shops.
Thank you Vegas for all the fun times, I hope you are treated well this weekend!
